The medical field has seen incredible growth and expansion in Jefferson County over the past several years with new facilities, improved technology and expanded services.

Valley Surgery Center, located on Sunset Boulevard in Steubenville, is a freestanding multi-specialty surgery center owned by 15 local surgeons. Within two years of opening in July of 2002, the center performed over 6,000 procedures and has achieved and maintained AAAHC accreditation.
The center is proud to offer state of the art equipment to provide unique surgical intervention such as CT guided sinus surgery, orthotripsy and PVP laser procedures. The "Center for Surgical Excellence" provides quality clinical and business office staff to care for its outpatient clients.
Riverside Medical is a multi-specialty physicians group that provides high-quality, cost-effective health care to the Ohio Valley. Riverside has locations throughout Jefferson County and offers primary care, internal medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, general surgery, vascular surgery, pulmonology, sports medicine and infectious disease care.
In downtown Steubenville, the Heart, Vascular and Rhythm Center allows cardiac patients one location for all necessary testing including EKG, stress tests and pacemaker as well as a coumadin clinic, complete lab services and more. Five board-certified cardiologists are on staff and available 24 hours a day for emergency intervention.
Both Wintersville and Brilliant locations house the Riverside Sports, Spine and Fitness Centers which focus on rehabilitation, injury care, orthotics and bracing, prolotherapy, exercise testing, extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) and a complete wellness and performance enhancement program. Three physicians, four athletic trainers, two physical therapists and an orthopedic technologist cover all aspects of sports medicine and physical rehabilitation.
Riverside Medical of Ohio also offers X-ray, CT scan, MRI and EFA testing as well as a full service lab. Riverside Medical also has offices in East Liverpool and Toronto in Ohio, Weirton and Follansbee in West Virginia and Paris, Pennsylvania.

 Trinity Health System is the area's largest employer with 1,800 employees. Trinity Health System was formed in 1995 when the sponsoring organizations, Franciscan Services Corporation and Tri State Health Services affiliated. Franciscan Services Corporation was the sponsor of St. John Medical Center and provides the Catholic representation of the organization. Tri State Health Services was the sponsor of Ohio Valley Hospital. These two organizations became co-sponsors of Trinity which is a religiously incorporated health system.
Trinity Health System and the Tony Teramana Cancer Center were the subject of an article in the July 17, 2006 edition of US News & World Report. This issue's cover story listed the nation's best hospitals in sixteen specialties. Trinity as included for its cancer therapy which is provided at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center. The specific article entitled, "Good Help, Close to Home", speaks to the increased technology and treatment options available to patients at their local community hospitals. A local friar at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, John Paul McMahon, was diagnosed with prostate cancer and chose brachytherapy at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center instead of a more radical prostatectomy in Pittsburgh, PA. Brachytherapy has been available at the TonyTeramana Cancer Center for six years and has been a very successful treatment option yielding positive outcomes. The procedure involves the injection of radioactive "seeds" directly into the tumor site. The seeds naturally lose their radioactivity over a few months and are not removed. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, with little or no recovery time.
The Trinity Heart Center provides diagnosis, intervention, open heart surgery and rehabilitation for area cardiac patients. The Center opened in 2001 and has provided nearly 2,000 open heart procedures and 12,000 cardiac interventions.
The Women’s Health & Birth Center provides a full array of women’s health services from childbirth to surgical recovery. The childbirth services utilize the LDR system which allows the laboring mother to remain in the same room during her childbirth experience. The inpatient services are provided in private rooms for female patients recovering from surgery. The finely decorated rooms with private bathrooms are much appreciated by the surgical patients.
Trinity Family Care Center Physicians include Pedicatricians, Family Practitioners and Internists. The Family Care Centers are located in Steubenville, Wintersville and Toronto.
Trinity also provides a full list of inpatient and outpatient services. Inpatient units include Intensive care, Coronary care, Pediatrics, Behavioral Medicine, Long-term care, Palliative care, Physical Rehabilitation and General Medical/Surgical care. Outpatient service include Physical Rehabilitation, Renal Dialysis, Radiology, Laboratory, Endoscopy, EEG, EKG, Cardiac catheterization, Sleep Lab, Emergency and Urgent care, Respiratory therapy and Nutritional services. Industrial medicine is also available through WorkCare.
Trinity also provides screenings and educational opportunities for the community. Various screenings are held throughout the year.
