Power of 32 launches public listening phase

Power of 32, the regional visioning initiative that includes 32 counties in four states, will launch its public input phase with simultaneous Community Conversations across the region on Tuesday, July 27.

The goal is to create a forum for all residents to voice their vision for the region’s future.

The 32 counties are located in the Maryland panhandle, eastern Ohio (including Jefferson), southwestern Pennsylvania, and West Virginia’s mid-central and panhandle.

Jefferson County’s Community Conversation will be held in Eastern Gateway Community College’s Pugliese Training Center. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the actual event will run from 6-8:30 p.m.  The local event is being co-sponsored by Progress Alliance and EGCC.

To register for the July 27 event in Jefferson County, visit www.powerof32.org or contact Progress Alliance at (740) 283-2476.

Just a handful of spots remain for the fourth annual Bridge Invitational Golf Classic, set for Friday, Aug. 6 at the Steubenville Country Club.

This year’s event is being billed as the Jefferson County Corporate Challenge.  The corporate team with the lowest score in the four-person scramble will win the opportunity to proudly display the brand new Bridge Invitational traveling trophy.  Members of the winning team will receive smaller replicas of the trophy along with other prizes.

R&B night is planned for the fort

Tonight is R&B Night at the Historic Fort Steuben in downtown Steubenville.

No Bad Juju, a dynamic eight-piece powerhouse featuring three lead vocalists backed by a driving rhythm and horn section, will be the featured performer.

The performance is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Gospel Night, featuring the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Mass Choir, is planned for Thursday, July 15.

Local products featured at new county event

Local produce and goods will be on display each Wednesday night through Oct. 27 at Eastern Gateway Community College thanks to a new event sponsored by the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Irene Moore, district administrator, predicts the new Farmer’s Market will continue to grow as it moves forward. She added it also will provide county residents with more knowledge of locally grown goods.

"This event gives local consumers the chance to experience the great taste and flavor of locally grown goods," she said. "Once they taste and see the difference, they will definitely begin to shop more locally, if possible."

Interested vendors can obtain an application from the soil and water conservation district by calling (740) 264-9790 or by visiting jeffersonswcd.org.

The market will run every Wednesday through Oct. 27. The next market will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
