"Boot Camp" Series - June 17 through June 19, 2010
Business Plan Boot Camp Series Hosted by Progress Alliance and MCBI

Progress Alliance will host ‘boot camp’

Progress Alliance, in partnership with the MCBI Regional Incubator for Entrepreneurs based in Zanesville, will host a Business Plan Boot Camp Series for residents of Jefferson, Harrison and Belmont counties.

The series will be held on Thursday, June 17 from 1-5 p.m., Friday, June 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The program will be held at the Progress Alliance offices, 630 Market St. in Steubenville.

John Voorhies, a counselor and presenter for the Ohio Small Business Development Centers, will serve as instructor. He has more than 30 years of experience in retail sales, marketing and customer service. In addition to his involvement in several small businesses, Voorhies also serves as an instructor for Zane State College, Kent State University and the MCBI.

“John has an extensive marketing background and also has years of experience as an entrepreneur,” said Jessica Sherman, regional coordinator for the MCBI.  “He has the ability to really connect with his audience and can provide the insight necessary for potential entrepreneurs to take the next step.”

Ed Looman, executive director of Progress Alliance, pointed out this boot camp is the next step in the process for entrants in the recent Big Idea Contest to develop their idea into a winning business.

“Those attending will walk away armed with knowledge regarding how to get started, how to identify their target market and competition and how to properly compile business financials,” he said. “This is the logical next step for folks to take when it comes to developing an idea into a winning business.”

The two contest winners in Jefferson County winners will be granted free admission to the boot camp. The cost to other interested participants in the three counties is $100.

Sherman stressed this series is open to anyone looking for help with the development of a business plan.
