Concert to honor memory of Sept. 11
A commemorative concert remembering Sept. 11, 2001 will be held Thursday, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Louis and Sandra Berkman Amphitheater at the Historic Fort Steuben.
Sponsored by the Council of Churches of Steubenville and vicinity, the concert will feature the Toronto Community Band and the Civic Choral Society. The opening prayer will be offered by the Rev. Robert Shearer of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the pledge of allegiance will be led by Helen Dorsey.
The concert, marking the eighth anniversary of the attack on the U.S., was set for Thursday because organizers recognized Friday is a football night in the area.
United Way salutes three area residents
The United Way of Jefferson County inducted three area residents into its Hall of Fame during the annual Jazz in the Forest event, held at the home of Robert and Christine Hargrave.
Joining the hall were: Sam Shorac of Shorac Funeral Homes, Mike Biasi of Valley Converting and Tom D’Anniballe of D’Anniballe and Co., CPA’s.
This is the sixth time significant donors to United Way were honored. The Jefferson Society Hall of Fame has inducted three people annually since 2004 and their names are placed on a plaque that hangs in the United Way office.
Progress Alliance joins the United Way in saluting these individuals for their ongoing involvement and commitment to the area. Shorac recently became a trustee of the Community Improvement Corporation. Biasi and D’Anniballe are long-time supporters of the CIC and Progress Alliance.
